Originally from all over the place\, it is by fate that these three met in Leeds in 2024. With catchy lyrics and poppy riffs\, their music is everything you want in 2000s pop punk without the controversy. They are truly taking the Leeds gig scene by storm playing notable venues such as Oporto\, Lending Room and Hyde Park Book Club in their first year as a band and have been called ‘one to watch’ by proud mother Debbie. Yaz Dale is Yasmin (vocals)\, Ellie (drums) and Rowan (guitar). \nECHO\nEcho are the kind of band that makes you wonder where the hell they’ve been hiding. Armed with crunchy riffs\, huge hooks\, and the kind of confidence that comes from serious rehearsal room graft\, this four-piece outfit are carving out a name with high-energy sets and songs that stick. With roots in London’s thriving music scene\, their dynamic live performances have made them a solid fixture on local line-ups. Whether they’re delivering an anthemic chorus or locking into a gritty groove\, Echo brings a confident stage presence and serious musical chemistry that leaves an impression long after the last note. \nBLUE SHIFT\nSelf-proclaimed ‘schizo-alt’ band Blueshift live in many sounds\, from light indie rock to nu-metal and punk\, the band’s eclectic taste is strongly reflected in the songs they create. Despite this range\, their signature sound remains prevalent throughout their discography\, whether it be their upbeat rhythms or high octane speeds and riffs. Forming as a 3-piece in late 2022\, what was at first ‘Senta Senza’ became Blueshift shortly after they acquired their lead guitarist\, however a near year-long hiatus would cause the band to rework their line-up into a 4-piece of: Kuba Krzysciak on vocals and rhythm guitar\, Brandon Pearson on drums\, Dominic Clark on lead guitar (sometimes swapped for Michał Wysocki) and Alex Deeks on Bass. \nKIT\nKIT (aka that_boy_kit) is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Knebworth\, UK. Blending ’90s grunge with raw indie energy\, he’s already a three-time finalist in the UK Song Academy Young Songwriter Awards\, and has been played on BBC Introducing. Known for his captivating live shows and honest\, coming-of-age lyrics\, KIT has become a standout at festivals like Todd in the Hole\, Old Town Live\, and Knebworth. Expect heart ache\, big hooks\, and shout-along choruses. During 2019 the line up was boasted by Saxophonist Clive Osborne. Born in Notting Hill\, Jay played his first gig aged 8 at a 10th birthday party. Influenced by his father’s record collection of blue beat\, ska and jazz\, by the late 1970s he was considered an emerging authority on contemporary Afro-American music including funk\, disco\, soul and jazz fusion. \nDuring a series of late-70s trips to New York\, visiting family\, Norman was inspired by the city’s unique and vibrant club scene\, and on his return to the UK teamed up with his brother\, Joey\, to build the Good Times Sound System\, playing funk\, soul and disco at Notting Hill Carnival. Cementing his reputation as co-founder of\, and prime selector on\, the then London pirate radio station KISS FM. Jay originally coined the term\, and subsequently fostered the emerging ‘Rare Groove’ scene\, filling the airwaves and many warehouse parties under his Shake and Fingerpop guises\, with the best in 70s & 80s grooves and nascent house cuts. Pushing the boundaries of the UK’s emerging club culture he went on to co-found the first ‘Paradise Garage’ style club in Britain – ‘High On Hope’\, and\, alongside kindred spirit Gilles Peterson\, Norman established the Talkin’ Loud label\, spearheading the Acid Jazz scene. \nThroughout the late 80s and 90s\, Jay continued to build a reputation as one of the world’s most popular DJs\, packing clubs to the rafters wherever he played\, taking the underground sounds of rare groove and house firmly into the mainstream. The turn of the century saw Norman Jay assume the role of elder statesman\, receiving an MBE from the Queen for services to deejaying and music. \nMost recently he has taken his legendary Good Times parties to the East of London\, sharing the carnival vibes with venues including St John at Hackney Church\, Oval Space and Mick’s Garage. His latest compilation ‘Mister Good Times’ released with Sunday Best Recordings captures the true spirit of Good Times\, ‘People who used to come to arrive early doors carnival will know exactly what this is about\,” says Norman. It has forever been a venue that champions young\, upcoming artists – always providing gigging opportunities to anyone that craved a place to perform and express themselves. \nFrom Pop to Black Metal and every wonderful shade in between\, Club 85 has welcomed all with open arms and a wide-eyed excitement to see what they could bring. \nNow however\, we find ourselves in a crucial moment. With the venue now seeking funds and investment to keep it’s doors open and continue providing a place for artists and fans to thrive\, we must act now to do what we can to breathe new life into a place that means so much to so many. \nAll four of us have our own lasting memories of this place.
