SUMMARY:Theatre of Hate + guests
DESCRIPTION:Theatre of Hate + guests \nIn 1980\, Kirk Brandon formed Theatre Of Hate from the ashes of heralded punk band The Pack. Joining Kirk on vocals were notable punk musicians Stan Stammers and Luke Rendall\, along with old school friend\, Steve Guthrie and Canadian born John Boy Lennard\, who revolutionised the bands sound with his haunting sax lines. \nTheatre Of Hates debut double-A-side single\, Legion/Original Sin\, topped the independent chart in 1980\, and Westworld\, their debut album\, produced by Mick Jones from The Clash and released in 1982\, held the number one position for 21 weeks. The single taken from the album\, Do You Believe In The Westworld? has become an anthem and is still widely played in clubs and on international radio\, as well as featuring on numerous compilation albums. \nSupporting the likes of The Clash & Ian Dury lead to Theatre Of Hate headlining major venues across the UK & Northern Europe.  Theatre Of Hate imploded in 1982\, with Kirk taking Stan forward to form Spear Of Destiny\, but the band has resurfaced over the years to play some very special shows.  2015 saw the band play two short jaunts across the UK in April and December both sets of dates wowed large crowds. \nDuring touring in 2014 and 2015 the band constantly recorded at Oxygen Studios in Manchester\, the first new studio album in 30+ years is now complete! ‘Kinshi’ was released in October 2016 on CD\, Vinyl\, Download & Dub. The 12 brand new songs are simply stunning. Part funded by a fan based private Pledge campaign this THEATRE OF HATE masterpiece propelled the band even further back into the spotlight and the band played consistent sell out shows to promote the album. \nFresh from a 3 month run across the USA with The Mission & The Chameleons the band show no sign of slowing down and still continue to deliver a spellbinding live show. . \nGuest support TBC \nTickets priced £22.50 are available online from Seetickets and in person from Our Favourite Shop\, Bar85 Hitchin and Davids Book Shop Letchworth. \nFacebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/ \nTicket link: https://www.seetickets.com/event/theatre-of-hate/club-85/2941991 \nDoors: 7:30pm \nAge: 16+ with photo ID – younger patrons can be signed in at the door and accompanied for the duration of the show by a responsible adult.\nEarplugs are available upon request (50p).\nDownstairs bar open until 11pm.\nLike all our gigs this show finishes well in time for the last trains North and South to Cambridge/Peterborough and London and we are just a 5 minute stroll from the station.\nFor full up to the minute listings please visit www.club-85.co.uk and consider signing up to our mailing list for information on existing and upcoming gigs straight to you!\nAnd remember… Club 85 loves you! xo

Then on to a pulsating\, echo-drenched disco-rock groove\, which morphs into a motorik rhythm too rapid even for the autobahn\, works itself into a squalling frenzy\, breaks cover as a kind of galloping\, syncopated\, Underworld-with-rabies affair\, and flows into a long\, chiming trance number climaxing in a collective instrumental howl. – David Bennun \nAcid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O.\, commonly shortened to Acid Mothers Temple or AMT\, is a Japanese Psychedelic Rock band\, the core of which formed in 1995. The band is led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto and early in their career featured many musicians and offshoot groups and collaborations\, but by 2004 the line-up had coalesced with only a few core members and frequent guest vocalists. \nThe band has released albums frequently on a number of international record labels as well as the Acid Mothers Temple family label\, which was established in 1998 to document the activities of the whole collective.\nThey tour North America every spring and come to Europe and the UK in the Autumn. \nDeviant Amps\nPsychedelic Rock\nhttps://www.facebook.com/deviantamps \nOrme\nDrone/Space/Psych Metal\nhttps://www.facebook.com/ormedroneuk\nDoors: 7pm \nTickets: £16 + 10% booking fee or £19 on the door\nPlease scroll down this page to purchase tickets. \nAge: 16+ with photo ID – younger patrons can be signed in at the door and accompanied for the duration of the show by a responsible adult.\nEarplugs are available upon request (50p).\nDownstairs bar open until 1am.\nLike all our gigs this show finishes well in time for the last trains North and South to Cambridge/Peterborough and London and we are just a 5 minute stroll from the station.

SUMMARY:JOHN OTWAY (solo show) + guests
DESCRIPTION:John Otway is an English singer-songwriter who has built a sizeable cult audience through extensive touring\, a surreal sense of humour and a self-deprecating underdog persona. \nFrom the age of 9\, John Otway knew he wanted to be a pop star. But even at that young age\, having listened to his sister’s Beatles and Stones records\, he knew he would never be able to do what they do. However\, when his sister got the latest Bob Dylan album\, he knew there was a place for him and he set about learning how to play guitar. \nA visit to a fortune teller would have a profound effect on the young Otway. After gazing into her crystal ball\, she confirmed that Otway would indeed be a star and would have success with a blonde-haired musician. Otway took this prediction very seriously and teamed up with Wild Willy Barrett (the only musician he knew who fitted the fortune teller’s description). In 1972\, the pair released their first single. Gypsy/Misty Mountain was a dedication to the fortune teller who had assured Otway that fame and stardom was just around the corner. The single would be the first of a string of flops\, but it did capture the attention of The Who’s Pete Townshend who offered to produce a number of tracks for the duo. \n\nSpecial guest comes from ‘The Ouse Valley Singles Club’ frontman Timmy Turnups \nInfluenced by the long forgotten sounds & traditions of 1950’s Skiffle (Google it) they combine this sound with the energy of Punk and the swing of Rock and Roll\, whilst occasionally dropping some Reggae flavour into the mix. Then layering this with hilarious Folk-like story-telling\, often crossing the parameters of what is deemed to be politically correct but keeping it very tongue in cheek. In doing this\, they have created a truly original & highly entertaining sound that has been dubbed “New Wave Skiffle” and they have been described as ‘George Formby meets The Clash’ where Vaudeville music Hall meets Working Men’s club. \n\n \nTickets priced £15 are on sale from Wednesday 6th December from Seetickets and available in person from Bar 85\, H-Town Wax and Rags and Davids Music Letchworth. \nTicket link: https://www.seetickets.com/event/john-otway/club-85\n\nDoors: 7:45pm\, \n\n16+ (bring ID)\nYounger patrons can be signed in at the door and accompanied for the duration of the show by a responsible adult.\nEarplugs are available upon request (50p).\nDownstairs bar open until 1am.\nLike all our gigs this show finishes well in time for the last trains North and South to Cambridge/Peterborough and London and we are just a 5 minute stroll from the station.\nFor full up to the minute listings please visit www.club-85.co.uk and consider signing up to our mailing list for information on existing and upcoming gigs straight to you!\nAnd remember… Club 85 loves you!

SUMMARY:LIQUID RIOT/ BELLZZZ/ LEFT VENTRICLE
DESCRIPTION:LIQUID RIOTLiquid Riot\, are an up and coming London and Herts based 4-piece band whose electrifying sound and high energy performances have been making waves since their formation in 2023.\n\nDrawing inspiration from bands like Arctic Monkeys and the post punk sound of Fontaines DC\, Liquid Riot developed a signature sound blending high-energy riffs\, anthemic melodies\, and dynamic vocals\, born out of Callum’s past demos. \n\n\nWith a growing following of fans who resonate with their playful commentary on the mundane and trials of everyday life\, Liquid Riot has quickly gained momentum in the music industry. Having played iconic venues including Amersham Arms\, The Horn\, and most recently\, a sell-out show at The Star in Shoreditch\, Liquid Riot is now gearing up for their biggest gig to date – a performance at the O2 Academy Islington and the upcoming release of their debut single. \n\n\nBELLZZZ19 year old Bellzzz fuses dark cinematic pop soundscapes with lyrical vignettes that veer from the darkly comic to the downright macabre. With a clarity of voice and lyrical maturity that it’s becoming easy to expect from the graduating class of first generation\, post-internet\, singer songwriters\, she invites us into dream pop landscapes where it’s just as easy to bump into yourself as it is your worst nightmares. \n\n\nAlready performing on impressive line ups alongside bands like Picture Parlour\, Mary In The Junkyard etc. her as yet unreleased songs are quickly gathering an industry buzz. Displaying an astute ability to connect stories about local misfits\, and small town mentalities with wider pop-culture and social references. \n\n\nHer lyrical gaze turns inward and captures us all there\, under the irrepressible gaze of a childhood basked in the unending blue-light of the internets doomscape utopia\, her stripped back and raw vocals cut directly into the interrupted trance of our post-pandemic\, post-capitalism wasteland and demand of us that we dream bigger\, weirder and better than we ever did before. \n\nLEFT VENTRICLELeft Ventricle are a dynamic alternative rock three piece band from Hertfordshire\, also based in Brighton.\n\nDrawing influences from Royal Blood\, QOTSA\, Jack White and Nirvana\, their infectious melodies combined with the unique song writing of Stan Cooper\, the guitarist and lead vocals\, speaks directly of their generation fusing both melancholy with attack. \n\n\nStan’s raw vocals and soaring guitar riffs united with Danny Butler on bass and Rowan Scourfield on drums driving the energy that fuels their live performances of their truly original material. \n\nTICKETS: £7 Adv / £9 Door\nTicket link: https://www.ticketweb.uk/event/liquid-riot-bellzzz-left-ventricle-club-85-ticketsDoors: 8pm \n\nAges 16+ with photo ID – younger patrons can be signed in at the door and accompanied for the duration of the show by a responsible adult.\nEarplugs are available upon request (50p).\nDownstairs bar open until 11pm.\nLike all our gigs this show finishes well in time for the last trains North and South to Cambridge/Peterborough and London and we are just a 5 minute stroll from the station.

SUMMARY:DJ YODA - 50 YEARS OF HIP HOP - AUDIO VISUAL SHOW
DESCRIPTION:The Pad Presents\nwww.thepadpresents.com \nDJ YODA – 50 YEARS OF HIP HOP – AUDIO VISUAL SHOW \nThe legendary DJ Yoda males his debut at Club 85 in Hitchin as part of his huge tour the ’50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop’ AV show! This is no ordinary club night\, as Yoda gives a visual representation of the music and culture on screen\, alongside some of the greatest Hip Hop tracks ever made. This is the first time a proper AV set will have ever been brought to the Club 85 and probably Hitchin! \nDJ Yoda is a multi-award-winning hip-hop DJ and producer\, headlining festivals and clubs around the world. No typical club DJ\, his interests lie in finding fresh and unique ways to bring turntables out of the club and getting involved in bespoke collaborations. Working with classical composers to neuroscientists; brass bands to film directors; Dr Dre to Dame Evelyn Glennie; Banksy to Mark Ronson; BBC Radio 4 to the BFI\, he reinvigorates his craft with wry invention and humorous intent. \nInternationally respected for his turntablism\, the viral success of his Stranger Things Mix racked up more than a half million plays on Soundcloud\, culminating in his UK Tour of Stranger Things The Mixtape Live. His eclectic series of How to Cut & Paste mixtapes offer a uniquely British take on hip-hop music and culture. \nDJ Yoda pioneered a new form of audio-visual entertainment\, unifying hands-in-the-air clubbing with a night at the movies\, chopping and splicing classic movies with the same exceptional style that he repurposes music samples. One of the first DJs to master the art of re-scoring classic films\, in 2014 he was commissioned to create DJ Yoda Goes to the Sci- Fi Movies as part of the BFI’s Sonic Cinema event. BBC Radio 6 Music gave him the platform to make history with the world’s first audio- visual radio mix\, and\, as part of their BBC Music Day\, Radio 4 invited Yoda to mash-up the entire station\, remixing The Archers\, The Shipping Forecast\, John Humphries and more in one of his most sublime and surreal adventures yet. \nEver pushing the boundaries of live audio-visual performance his journey into popular culture – DJ Yoda: A History of Gaming – premiered at the London Film Festival on the UK’s largest screen at the prestigious IMAX\, charting best loved and most fondly remembered games from the early 1980s to the present. \nSupport from Bedford-Town’s finest\, MASS C \n——- \nTickets are on sale 10am\, Monday 22nd January from Seetickets and will be available from local outlets from Sat 27th January – This event is for over 18s only. \nTicket link:https://www.thepadpresents.com/events/dj-yoda-50-years-of-hip-hop-audio-visual-show-2/ \nDoors: 7:45pm \nAge: 18+ with photo ID – younger patrons can be signed in at the door and accompanied for the duration of the show by a responsible adult.\nEarplugs are available upon request (50p).\nDownstairs bar open until 11pm.\nLike all our gigs this show finishes well in time for the last trains North and South to Cambridge/Peterborough and London and we are just a 5 minute stroll from the station.\nFor full up to the minute listings please visit www.club-85.co.uk and consider signing up to our mailing list for information on existing and upcoming gigs straight to you!\nAnd remember… Club 85 loves you! x
