Accompanied by his band\, Invaders of the Heart\, Jah Wobble is reborn into a new decade as defiant as ever with a brand new UK tour. \n\nJah Wobble’s career speaks for itself\, spanning over 40 year’s he’s played on countless albums\, with performers such as PIL’s John Lydon\, Brian Eno\, Bill Laswell\, U2’s The Edge\, Sinead O’Conner\, Primal Scream\, Bjork\, The Orb\, The Cranberries Dolores O ́Riordan and many more\, as well as a regular on the hit TV show Never Mind the Buzzcocks. \n\nBorn John Wardle\, the nickname was given to him by Sid Vicious following an evening of drunken antics. Sid Vicious then went on to give Jah his first ever bass guitar. As a bassist\, Jah Wobble is well known as one of the founding members and ultimately the back bone of the legendary Public Image Limited (PiL) during the early years. Whilst working with John Lyndon\, Keith Levene and Jim Walker\, Jah’s notoriously powerful low end bass created PiL’s debut album Public Image: First Issue\, which included the band’s first Top 10 single as well as their prestigious second album Metal Box\, which included the post-punk classic Death Disco. \n\nSince departing with PiL\, Jah Wobble is now a prevalent solo artist with his band\, Invaders of the Heart and was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize for his debut album\, Rising Above Bedlam. DESCRIPTION:The St Chris Afro/Funk Collective (A.K.A. The St Chris Jazz and World Music Ensemble) is hosting it’s yearly charity gig at Club 85 in Hitchin on March 27th; featuring a host of St Chris musicians\, plus another appearance from the UK’s leading Afrobeat artist\, and former Fela Kuti bandmate\, Dele Sosimi. \nThe concert is curated by Justin Thurgur\, who outside of his work at St Chris has an extensive performing cv\, which includes a long term collaboratorion with Sosimi\, being a member of the Cuban/Afrobeat project Cubafrobeat and the seminal English Folk band Bellowhead\, plus session work with the likes of the legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen\, Cuban giants Giraldo Piloto\, Julito Padron and Changuito\, plus UK two-tone band The Selecter\, and The Levellers. \nDele Sosimi was a member of Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80 band\, which he eventually left to form Positive Force with Fela’s son Femi Kuti. He was musical director of this band until he moved to the UK in the late 1990’s\, when he set about forming his own group (Justin Thurgur was a part of that orginal line-up\, and has been there ever since). More recently Sosimi has also been branching out in to other musical arenas\, collaborating with the likes of Medlar and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly\, with remixes that have become established club soundtracks. \nThis year’s charity is “One Tree Planted”. DESCRIPTION:JAZZ UP! presents… \nBILLY POD – Quintessence \n+ the Joe English Trio \n+ DJ Sten King \nBilly Pod is an award-winning Greek drummer based in London. \nHis debut album “Drums to Heal Society” (2019) has given him a prominent position among the new generation of international drummers and demonstrates his compelling skills as a composer and music ensemble director. \nHis latest album entitled ‘Quintessence’ is a reflection on the intellectual nature of humanity in modern society. It was well received by press\, media and live audiences during his UK and European tour in 2023. It is a shining example of dynamic and lyrical contemporary jazz with haunting melodies and rich\, complex moods. \nBilly started playing the drums at the age of 7 and then took lessons in classical piano and violin. He has recorded more than 20 albums and has performed in festivals and venues in Europe\, USA and Asia. \nHis musical style blends classical\, rock and jazz influences\, from Radiohead\, Jean Sibelius\, Philip Glass to Wayne Shorter and Thelonious Monk.
