LOWDOWN PRESENTS:
ALPHA OMEGA
Lowdown:
All Hail The Riff. A war cry synonymous with the Hertfordshire-based four-piece that has seared its mark into the local music scene. Now, with relentless intent, Lowdown is poised to take the UK metal landscape by storm.
Born in the aftermath of lockdown, Lowdown emerged from the mind of Dave Runham—a name already revered in the metal stratosphere and a familiar face at Bloodstock. With a new home in Baldock and an even sharper vision, Runham sought to forge a band that would unleash a sonic onslaught-an unrelenting barrage of riffs and melodies designed to melt faces and ignite crowds hungry for a fresh chapter in modern metal.
Drawing inspiration from the crushing grooves of Black Label Society, the soaring melodies of Alter Bridge, the raw aggression of Pantera, and the ominous weight of Sabbath, Lowdown fused doom-laced chords with searing, down-tuned riffs-pinch harmonics ricocheting through the air like battle cries. Their arrival wasn’t just noticed; it was felt.
Alpha – Omega by Lowdown is built on the idea that everything—beginnings and endings-comes back to us. As Runham explains, “The album ‘Alpha – Omega’ was crafted on the understanding that everything starts and ends with us (you). You are your beginning and end.
War and conflict exist in many forms. Some fight battles in the physical world, while others struggle within themselves. This duality is at the heart of Alpha – Omega. “Set Fire” embodies the frustration of trying to fix a problem, only to realize that the real issue lies within yourself.
But the vision needed a heartbeat. Enter Richard Emms, a powerhouse drummer whose name already carried weight in the scene. When Runham reached out, it was less of an invitation and more of an inevitability. Alongside his rhythmic partner-in-crime, bassist Kevin Smart, the three came together at London Road Rehearsal Studios for what would be a fateful jam session. From the first note, it was clear—this wasn’t just another band. This was Lowdown.
And then came the missing piece. In early 2023, Ant Pinnell, a seasoned veteran of the metal scene, stepped in, solidifying the band’s sonic assault. With Pinnell’s presence, Lowdown evolved—richer, heavier, more complex. Onstage and in the studio, their sound became unstoppable.
Reflecting on the band’s meteoric rise, Emms recalls, “The past two years have been nothing short of electrifying. Two unforgettable M2TM finals, incredible gigs, and now, the culmination of it all-our first album. Lowdown was never just about playing metal; it was about making a statement. We set out to be aggressive, modern, and undeniable, blending unshakable riffs with raw energy. And with Alpha/Omega, that vision has come to life.”
The album consists of 10 tracks, each one a relentless force of pure metal energy. From the very first note, ‘Set Fire’ erupts—a scorching debut single that takes no prisoners. Uncompromising and explosive, it forges the backbone of the album, setting the stage for a sonic journey that is as ferocious as it is unforgettable.
